Gelli debating team join in cluster event

Our Year Six debating team of Thomas, Cara and Joe participated in a cluster debating event at Treorchy Comprehensive this evening. Along with pupils from the other Year 6 classes in our cluster primary schools they were tutored by the Year 11 pupils at Treorchy Comprehensive and Mr. Lewis from the English department. They were able to learn how to develop skills in researching their topic, writing speeches and presenting them to an audience. They were presented with certificates by former pupil Josh Wilson, a member of the Year 11 debating team. Hopefully they will develop their talents like Josh has an emulate him end his fellow debaters in achieving success for their schools.

Cardiff City v Brighton

We organised a visit to the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday 19th February in conjunction with the Cardiff City Soccer School. Forty four parents and pupils enjoyed the trip, but not the result, as top of the table Cardiff City were beaten by two fortunate Brighton goals at the end of each half. The pupils and parents were excellent role models and as a result of Cardiff City's work with us in our community our photograph was displayed in the match day programme and we were escorted by Gary Wilmot, one of the club's ambassadors from the Soccer school. Hopefully we will be able to watch City playing in the Premier League next year despite the loss. Our pupils, and parents were a credit to the school and we hope to organise more opportunities to visit sporting events as a result.

Purple Mash update

Some of you have been unable to log into Purple Mash. If you use the link from the school latest news page and insert the username in LOWER CASE, then as the password is case sensitive the FIRST letter is a CAPITAL and others lower case.
I have tested several random pupils today and they all work in this case. If, for any reason, the problems persists please contact me in school.

Can yr Adeilad - Song of the Building

The Park and Dare Theatre is celebrating it's centenery this year and the Rhondda Cynon Taff Cultural and Music Service have comissioned a young Welsh composer, Jack White, to compose a piece of music to commemorate this occasion. Pupils from our school have been asked to participate in the Junior School's choir and year 6 pupils, Mrs. Taylor  and I were involved in a recording session where the composer took speach recordings to interwieve into the music. This is a very exciting project and one which I am sure that our pupils will enjoy. It is a unique piece of music which celebrates the rich heritage of the Upper Rhondda and the part that the hall has played in valley life over the past century. There will be a CD recording made and performances on both Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th March at 1p.m. and 7 p.m. Mrs. Johnson has contacted parents with the itinerary and I hope that as many parents who are interested will attend the performances.

Purple Mash login details

Over the weekend we seem to have discovered some of you were having difficulty in logging into Purple Mash from home. Mrs Flanary-Davies has contacted the help desk and seems to have sorted out the problem. Here is a possible solution - the username which goes before @c51325 is NOT case sensitive. ONLY THE PASSWORD IS CASE SENSITIVE. We have randomly selected a number of pupils from each class and when this protocal is followed we can successfully log in to all tyhe accounts. Please have another try using this method and if you are still finding difficulty in logging on please ring Mrs Thomas and we shall try to sort out the problem for you.
