Your child will bring home a newsletter informing parents of the arrangements for next week's concerts. There is a slip for ordering tickets that can be returned to school as soon as you are able. Tickets have been allocated and will be kept until Friday morning. After this time any unclaimed tickets will be distributed on a first come first served basis on Friday afternoon. Copies of the letters are available here for you if your child is not in school today.

A message to Year 1 parents

I've just been made aware that appointments booked with Mrs K Dyer for parents from Year 1 this week need to be rebooked with Miss Davis. The system has allowed these bookings to be made despite Mrs Dyer not being in school. I programmed the system to only offer appointments with Miss Davis but somehow these extra appointments have become available. I can only apologise and will report this to the software company in the morning to establish how this has happened. Please will you share this information with other parents to avoid any unnecessary disappointment.

New Parents meeting booking system

Good news! Parents Evening just got a whole lot easier because you can now book your appointments online.

We will send a link to your mobile phone or email address which will take you to our online booking system to select a time convenient for you. Please follow these simple steps to book your slot:

1.      Click the link that you receive through text and/or email to take you to the confirmation page. You will need internet access to do this.

2.      Enter your child’s first name to continue. If you have more than one child, any of their first names will work.

3.      Next you will be taken to the booking page. This will show your children alongside all of the teachers that you can book in with.

4.      Click ‘Please Choose’ to be shown a list of available times that you can click to book. This will even give you the option to add any notes that you might want the teacher to see before the meeting.

5.      After you have entered any notes, please click ‘Book this Slot’ to complete your booking. When the button has turned green you know your booking has been made.

6.      At any time before the Parents Evening, you can click the link on your phone or email again to check your booking time or even un-book by clicking the green booked button.

Make sure you book your parents evening ASAP to ensure you get the best time for you.

Our Annual Ugly Bug Ball

Our annual Ugly Bug Ball takes place on Thursday 20th October in the School hall. Foundation Phase pupils are invited to wear their costumes to school but must be accompanied to the Ball by an adult. The ball takes place from 3.15 and finishes at 4.15. The Junior Ball takes place between 4.45. and 5.45. Please make sure that you are in school by 5.45 to collect your child or arrange for them to walk home safely.
Entry is £1. Refreshments will be available and details are on the poster

If you are a parent/carer, or are expecting a baby, we would like to know your views on childcare in RCT, even if you do not currently use childcare.

Completing this survey will help us identify potential gaps in childcare provision.

INSET Day 3 of 5

Please can I remind you that the staff will be involved in INSET training tomorrow on Friday 7^th October and therefore school will be closed for all pupils on that day. This training at Treorchy Comprehensive School will include the staff of all the feeder schools.

Shopping trip to Bath

Mrs Pither has kindly organised a Christmas shopping trip to raise funds for the Year 6 residential trip to Abernant in May next year. The trip will take place on Saturday 3^rd December and is priced at £17 per person. Please contact Miss Carly or Miss Hatch in school or Mrs Pither as advertised on the poster. Seats on the trip will be allocated on a first come first served basis therefore it will be important to book places early to avoid disappointment.

Roald Dahl Centenary Celebrations

Dear Parents,

                        

During the first two weeks of the term we will be looking at the life and work of Roald Dahl as part of his centenary celebrations. This also links with all the events happening in and around Cardiff on the 17^th and 18^th of September.

                    

On the 13^th of September we will be holding a birthday party for Roald Dahl as part of a worldwide celebration. We would like the children to come dressed as a character from a Roald Dahl book on that day! Please don’t worry or feel you need to go and buy a costume as there are lots of easy ideas. The website www.roalddahl.com has lots of easy costume ideas and templates to make items such as BFG ears and Mr Twits nose!!

Here are some easy ideas:

Matilda Wormwood (Matilda)

Blue dress (actually any dress will do!), hairband and a pile of books. 

Mr or Mrs Twit (The Twits)

Scruffy clothes, messy hair and a long warty nose for Mrs Twit (make a nose from the website!), scruffy beard for Mr Twit.

Sophie (The BFG)

Pink dress (or a nightie) and glasses

Charlie Bucket (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)

Charlie wears old clothes - just jeans and an old t-shirt will do.  Just remember to decorate a golden ticket and you'll look the part.

Miss Spider (James and the Giant Peach)

Black top and black leggings or trousers, stuff a couple of pairs of black tights with newspaper to create extra spider legs and drape around the neck or attach to a belt.

Yummy Yellow

Don't forget, yellow was Roald Dahl's favourite colour so you can join in the Dahlicious Dress Up Day by wearing anything yellow.

We would be grateful if your child could bring a pack of shop bought cakes, crisps or biscuits to share in the party and we will provide the drinks!

Family Fun Day

Just a reminder about our Family Fun Day on Friday 15^th July which will commence at 1 o'clock.

The children, staff and parents have been busy working together organising this event and we hope you will come along and enjoy the fun we have planned.

This is our first family fun day, which we have incorporated into our annual Entrepreneurial week after receiving feedback from our parent council that parents would very much like to be more involved on our school life. The governors of the school have also been invited to join us on the day.

There are lots of stalls and fun activities going on during the day and some of the children will be performing on the stage. There will also be an opportunity to buy the products the children have made during the week.

Please can all children attending the Family fun day be picked up at 1 o'clock

All infant classes i.e. Nursery, Reception, Year 1 & 2 children can be collected from Class 2 door at the front of the school.

All junior classes i.e. Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 can be collected from the nursery door at the front of the school.

Please do not use the main door.

Children who cannot be collected by an adult can attend the Family Fun Day and will be supervised by staff and can go home at 3.15pm when school finishes.

Hwb project Icelandic Chant

Supporting Wales in Euro 2016

Pupils in Year 6 are participating in a Euro 2016 project with schools in Cardiff researching aspects of cultural and sporting life of the countries participating in the championships in France. We will invite all pupils to wear read for Wales on THURSDAY 16th JUNE when Wales play England in Lens. There is no requirement for parents to purchase any Welsh merchandise specifically for this day as any red clothing will be acceptible. In addition, pupils can opt to wear school uniform as usual.

This year's attendance target is 94.4%. Each week we challenge each class to meet and exceed this target and as a reward the class with the highest percentage attendance looks after Barney the Bear for the week.

Gelli Playgroup Open Morning.

Meeting with the parents as part of the ESTYN inspection

As part of the ESTYN Inspection process there will be a PARENTS MEETING on MONDAY 14th MARCH in the School hall beginning at 3.30 p.m. Parents are invited to meet the inspectors and share information about the school. In order for as many parents to come as possible we are providing child care facilities at school during the meeting. Please contact your son or daughter's class teacher to arrange this.

Please do not send pupils in costume tomorrow.

We will be celebrating World Book Day with some activities in class. I have a number of staff out of class tomorrow on training and feel that postponing the costume wearing until the last week of term would give those staff and pupils a greater opportunity to enjoy the day together. Please do not send your child in costume tomorrow. We are planning activities for the last week of term with an Easter Bonnet Parade and the Come dressed as your favourite fictional character and other things. These will be posted on here and communicated by newsletter and our usual social media sites. Your co-operation will be gratefully appreciated.

Please do not bring your dog on to the School Site

At this evening's meeting of the school council we discussed the issue of parents bringing dogs on to the school site. This is a health and safety issue and the pupils are politely requesting that parents do not bring their dogs on to the school site. The pupils highlighted that dogs could make some mess on the areas where they would be walking home and some dogs may attack pupils or other dogs and frighten the younger pupils. They designed this poster to alert parents. Your co-operation will be gratefully appreciated.

We've reached 10 dojos this week already

Llongydarchiadau to Niall and Ebony for reaching their 10 dojo target this week and its only Thursday.

Parking in and around the school and vicinity

I have received several complaints from local residents regarding inappropriate and illegal parking in and around the school. The main area that residents are aggrieved about is the lane behind Ystrad Road and the school. The picture to the left is an example of  how one resident was unable to access his vehicle to go to work.

Not only are these vehicles parked illegally, the parents, when approached by local residents about this are often offensive and abusive. Some in front of the children.

I feel I must point out the following acts of parliament which these parked vehicles are in direct contravention of:

The Highways Act 1835 Section 28 Parking on the Pavement Causing an Obstruction.

The Road Traffic Act 1984 Sections 99 and 101 Parking As To Cause An Obstruction

And. considering the junction, and the volume of traffic and the regular occurrence of accidents, The Road Traffic Act 1984 Section 22 and 22A Parking In A Dangerous Position As To Increase The Likelihood Of Danger To Other Road Users.  

I am requesting that spot checks will be made by local police officers to prevent this from happening and subsequent fines and points on licences will be the consequence of those who violate the law.

Over the years, our close neighbours are very supportive of the school and often act as "neighbourhood watch" especially in the summer months when local youths are prone to frequent the yard making any the police aware anti social behaviour and vandalism in the yard.

Please respect their right to access the lane and their garages. Parking on zig zags and on the double yellow lines outside school is also increasing as is the number of cars accessing the car park.

I would appreciate your co-operation with this matter.
